Man Utd punish Leicester to extend unbeaten run

Ruud van Nistlerooy's final game in charges as interim manager ended with a 3-0 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford.

Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford were all recalled by interim manager Ruud van Nistlerooy, who was taking charge of his final game before Ruben Amorim joins on Monday.

The decision to maintain Amad Diallo paid off after 16 minutes when the Ivorian did well to set up Bruno Fernandes with a delightful flick, before the latter curled a neat strike into the far corner.

The Foxes had to wait until the 28th minute for a clear-cut opening through  Wilfred Ndidi, who saw his close-range effort kept out by Andre Onana after the United defence went to sleep.

The home side would go on to grab the second goal ten minutes later when Noussair Mazraoui did well to pick out the run of Fernandes, who sent a close-range header for his second of the day.

The second half proved to be quite the contrast to the first, with both sides struggling to carve out clear-cut chances at either end, as the hosts threw on Alejandro Garnacho to liven up the affair.

With United holding a comfortable lead, Leicester struggled trouble the Red Devils defence as Onana had a relatively quiet afternoon between the sticks.

The Red Devils, however, did go on to grab a third goal in the final nine minutes as Garnacho rounded off the scoring with an impressive curling strike that sailed into the top corner.
