Fernandes & Rashford fire Man Utd past Palace

Manchester United 2-1 Crystal Palace

Manchester United continued to strengthen their top-four aspirations in the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

United earned a penalty in no less than seven minutes for a handball from Will Hughes in the area and Bruno Fernandes stepped up to fire in the subsequent penalty-kick.

With the lead intact at the break, United made it two in the closing quarter when the self-same Rashford got on the end of Luke Shaw's delivery and applied a comfortable finish.

The Red Devils were down to ten players after Carlos Casemiro got a straight for violent conduct following a Video Assistant Review (VAR) consultation around fulltime.

Furthermore, Palace managed to pull a goal back after Jeffrey Schlupp attacked a surging ball from a corner-kick and tucked home, but it was too little too late as United claimed victory.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 Liverpool

Liverpool's disappointing run of form in the league continued and went 3-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers, who eased their relegation fears.

It was the worst possible start for the Reds as defensive uncertainty saw Joel Matip find his own net after looking to clear their lines and keep the balance of play.

Debutant Craig Dawson quickly put the host two goals up with a strong finish that give Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker absolutely no chance.

Liverpool's hopes of a comeback were dashed in the last 20 minutes after Ruben Neves pounced on an assist by Adama Traore and applied a sound finish to leave the Reds broken.

Brentford City 3-0 Southampton

Brentford crushed the hapless and relegation-threatened Southampton 3-0 and climbed into seventh position on the table.

Attacker Ben Mee made the breakthrough late in the first half before fellow forward Bryan Mbuemo increased the home side's tally with seconds to the break.

Granted a response from the Saints during the course of the match, the Bees encountered no comeback from the visitors and bagged a third in the dying minutes through Mathias Jensen.

The defeat leaves the bottom-placed Saints at the foot of the standings, whereas the Bees jumped to seventh spot on the back of this win.

Aston Villa 2-4 Leicester City

Leicester City came from behind and thumped Aston Villa 4-2 and jumped to 13th position on the table with their counterparts unable to consolidate 11th place.

Villa were up and running through Ollie Watkins minutes in, but that lead lasted just a few minutes after James Maddison restored parity off Kelechi Iheanacho's assist.

The Clarets, though, pulled themselves back in front after the half-hour mark when Harry Souttar bundled into his own net while looking to make a clearance.

However, the Foxes pulled level just before the break after Nigerian-born Iheanacho popped up unmarked in the area and nodded home.

Leicester then went in front right on the brink of halftime when Iheanacho turned from finisher to provider as he set-up Mateus Tete to slot beyond Danny Ward.

The Foxes got a fourth deep in the second half with a finish from Russian international Dennis Praet and ultimately helped the side move further up the table.

Brighton Hove Albion 1-0 Bournemouth

The Seagulls snatched victory from the brink of a draw as the highly-rated Kaoru Mitoma popped up with the winning strike in the last three minutes of the match.

This win keeps the home side's impressive run of results under Roberto De Zerbi and furthermore strengthened their grip on sixth-place, with Bournemouth rooted in the bottom-three.
