However, despite such huge success, it appears the winger, who will be 34 by the time his current contract expires in 2025, could soon be lured away from the Etihad.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli, who recently parted ways with manager Pitso Mosimane, have submitted an official contract offer to Mahrez.

The newly-promoted team is said to have made a three-year offer worth £40 million (R931 million) a year in a bid to persuade the 32-year-old to join them.

The Italian reporter claims that negotiations are currently underway with the player, but added that talks between the Saudis and City are yet to take place.

Al Ittihad, who were believed to be also interested in the former Leicester City star, are believed to no longer in the race with Ahli having seemingly emerged as frontrunners for his signature.
