Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has reportedly turned down a return to the Premier League due to one key reason.
De Gea left United as a free agent in July 2023, ending his 12-year association with the club.

It was initially thought that he would extend his stay at the club after he was offered an extension that included a pay cut as he was one of the highest earners at Old Trafford at the time, but it was reported that United later changed their mind and decided to find a new No. 1 instead, in the form of Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
Despite interest from Saudi Arabia and clubs in England in the 2024 January transfer window, De Gea went on to spend the entire 2023/24 campaign unattached.
With the new season set to get underway next month, the Spaniard's future is now making headlines again after he reportedly turned down a return to the English top flight, having been linked with Nottingham Forest earlier this year.
Now, according to The Athletic, the 33-year-old recently rejected a move to an unnamed Premier League club due to his ties with the Red Devils.
It is said the shot-stopper is not interested in playing in England again, with clubs in Saudi Arabia, Italy, and the United States said to be pondering a potential move for the goalkeeper.
This past weekend, De Gea posted a cryptic message on X showing an hour glass, with many interpreting this to mean that an imminent announcement on his future is on the way, and there is talk suggesting his next destination could be confirmed by the end of next week.

De Gea played 545 matches for United, ranking him seventh in the club's all-time list of appearance-makers, as per Transfermarkt, while he also remains the last Red Devils goalkeeper to win a Premier League trophy.
