Yet another star 'wants' to leave Pep's Man City

Another Manchester City star now reportedly wants to leave the club after receiving interest from one of Europe's biggest teams.

The Citizens are understood to be trying their best to hold on to some of their key players before the transfer window closes.

With Riyad Mahrez having been successful in his recent request to leave the Etihad, midfielder Bernardo Silva and defender Kyle Walker have also been the subject of potential departures, although the Premier League side are believed to have presented them with improved new deals, but neither have officially signed those contracts.

In the midst of that, another player is now reportedly also considering an exit after being approached by a top club in Europe.

According to Sky Germany, Bayern Munich have opened talks with City's back-up goalkeeper Stefan Ortega as an option to replace the recently departed Yann Sommer, who filled in for the injured Manuel Neuer last season.

Ortega, who has made only 15 official appearances for City since joining the club in July 2022, is understood to be interested in moving back to his native of Germany, where he would also instantly become a No. 1, at least for the short term while Neuer continues his recovery, as opposed to his current second-choice role at the Etihad.

The 30-year-old has proved a reliable shot-stopper when called upon for the Citizens, though, and manager Pep Guardiola has made it clear he does not want to see him leave, and in fact wants to extend his deal beyond its current expiry date of June 2025.

"It would be a problem to lose [Ortega] first of all because of the quality," the Catalan boss said at a press conference ahead of his side's UEFA Super Cup clash against Sevilla on Wednesday night.

"We bring him here because [head of goalkeeping] Xabi Mancisidor sent me the clips and said 'this is a keeper that maybe we need'.

"I didn't know him. He was playing for a side relegated from the Bundesliga and I saw him and said 'ah, looks good'.

"But since day one I said, 'what a keeper we have'.

"You know how many important games he played and how he saved us.

"We don't want to sell him, we don't want to loan him. We need him.

"But like many cases it depends on three parts because after that, if we lose Stefan two weeks out [from the end of] the market, we have to go pick up a keeper and it's not easy now.

"You have to pay transfer [fee] and it's not easy. We want him. I am sorry but we want him."

It is further claimed that of Bayern cannot finalise a move for Ortega, they could then look to bring in former Manchester United stopper David de Gea, who has reportedly already been approached the Bundesliga champions.
