Barcelona striker Neymar pays €222m buyout clause ahead of Paris Saint-Germain move

Earlier on Thursday La Liga rejected an attempt to pay the money, citing concerns it may violate Uefa's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

However, Barca have since revealed they have received payment, paving the way for Neymar to join Paris Saint-Germain for a world record fee.

The Catalans released a statement, which reads: “On Thursday afternoon Neymar Jr’s legal representatives visited in person the club’s offices and made the payment of 222 million euros in the player’s name with regards to the unilateral termination of the contract that united both parties.

“As such, the club will pass on to Uefa the details of the above operation so that they can determine the disciplinary responsibilities that may arise from this case.”

In Spain a player must buy himself out of his contract, with the league then passing the money to the selling club.
