Borussia Dortmund to break transfer record and beat Liverpool to Thorgan Hazard deal - Kicker

Dortmund will pay 40 million for the Borussia Mönchengladbach playmaker, making him the most expensive signing in the club's history, according to German publication Kicker.

It marks a significant investment for BVB whose largest outlay was investing in André Schürrle from Wolfsburg in a €40m deal back in the 2016/17 season.

Gladbach are said to have been given 'clear signal' Hazard, who has scored 12 goals and registered 11 assists in 29 games this season is set for an abrupt exit.

"We told Thorgan some time ago that we wanted to renew his contract (which ends in June 2020), but he has not given any signals in this regard," the club revealed in a statement.

Liverpool reportedly expressed interest in bringing the 26-year-old back to the Premier League, but ironically it's the investment of his former club Chelsea that has made Lucien Favre's side the clear favourites.

Christian Pulisic's €64 deal to join the Blues at the end of the season has offered the German side leverage in the market as they look to build on one of the most promising squads in European football.
