Chelsea sign Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi

“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce Michy Batshuayi has today completed his transfer from Marseille,” read a statement by the club released on Sunday.

“The 22-year-old signed a five-year contract.”

The explosive forward, who was part of Belgium’s squad at this year’s Euro 2016, joins after a highly successful season in France, where he netted 23 goals in 50 games across all competitions as he helped his side earn a runners-up medal in the French Cup final, following a disappointing 13th-placed finish in Ligue 1.

The former Standard Liege forward revealed his delight in making the switch to London.

“I am delighted to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and embark on the next chapter in my career,” he said. “I hope I can help Chelsea win many trophies during my time at Stamford Bridge.

“Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois have told me many good things about the club, and with Antonio Conte coming in it's an exciting time to become a Chelsea player.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for myself and my family, I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League next season.”
