Diego Maradona has slammed Gonzalo Higuain's move to Juventus

The Napoli and Argentina legend expressed sympathy for the Partenopei fans who have lost their star player and main protagonist in a successful campaign last season.

On Saturday, angry supporters protested in the Naples city centre where they burned pictures of the player and replicas of his jersey.

This reaction came in the wake of reports that the Juventus had agreed to pay Higuain's €94.7million release clause and that the player had completed a medical ahead of the move.

"This Higuain affair is hurting me because he is going to a direct rival like Juventus, but we cannot blame the player either," Maradona wrote on his official Facebook page.

"A player has a responsibility to himself and it is those fat cats of business that are grinning the most in this case. Nobody thinks of the fan.

"I'm tired of saying that today it seems to be more important to be a good businessman than a good president. This did not happen in my time.

"Too bad that FIFA continues to sleep," he concluded.
