Juan Mata and Daley Blind to leave Manchester United, Michael Carrick set to stay

The ‘Special One’ was appointed as the new Red Devils coach last week, and is believed to have already started with plans to mould his own team, with Mata and Blind set to be shown the door, according to Sky Sports.

Neither player fit the profile of the footballer wanted by Mourinho in their specific positions, with the Portuguese tactician already parting ways with Mata once before as he let the Spaniard leave Chelsea in 2014.

Blind was signed by former coach Louis van Gaal as his first major recruit at Old Trafford, with the Dutch defender seemingly not in the plans of his new coach.

Meanwhile, midfielder Michael Carrick has signed a one-year extension at the Theatre of Dreams, as mistakenly revealed by club legend Paddy Crerand.

The club has yet to announce the extension, yet Crerand let the news slip while being interviewed on MUTV on Monday night.

"Something that happened today that nobody has mentioned, and I'm delighted that he has signed another contract: Michael Carrick. He's signed a contract for another year,” he said.

"There was a situation where it looked as if his contract was up at the end of this year and that was it, but from what I'm gathering he's there for another year."

Carrick joins young duo Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson who have signed new deals since Mourinho’s arrival.
