Juventus transfer news: Serie A giants to sign former player to replace Morocco captain Medhi Benatia

Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri confirmed that 2018 BBC African Player of The Year nominee Benatia will be leaving the club, with reports suggesting he will sign for Qatari-based side Al Duhail for €10 million (R154m).

Benatia joined the club from Bayern Munich in 2016, initially on loan, but completed a reported €20m switch at the end of the 2016/17 season.

However, he's failed to establish himself as a first-team regular ahead of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci.

"It wouldn't make sense to keep a player who is reluctant," said Allegri, as per BBC Football. "Benatia made a choice and the club evaluated and accepted his request."

The club has acted swiftly in acquiring his replacement with Uruguay defender Martin Caceres, for a third spell in Turin.

The 31-year-old has enjoyed a nomadic career, having played for Southampton, Hellas Verona and Lazio over the past 20 months.

"I know Caceres and he can give a lot to Juventus," Allegri added. "He is a player who is ready to go here, while others would take more time settling in, learning the environment."

Caceres has already completed his medical at the club's training ground and is expected to be unveiled on Monday afternoon.
