Mario Gotze re-joins Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich

Gotze, who scored the winner in Germany’s 2014 World Cup triumph, left BVB in 2013 for the Bavarian giants, and after netting 36 goals in 114 appearances for Munich, heads back to Dortmund, signing a four-year deal with the club, subject to a medical.

"I am personally very pleased that Mario has decided to return to Borussia Dortmund,” club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said. “I have since his departure in 2013 always hoped that he would one day return to us.”

Gotze said he’s delighted to be back, and vows to prove himself once again on the pitch and win back the favour of the fans he disappointed three years ago.

"When I switched from BVB to Bayern in 2013, that was a conscious decision behind I will not hide myself today,” he said. “Three years later, I look with different eyes at my former decision. I can well understand that many fans could not understand my decision. I would not even take it so today!

“When I return to my home, I want to try convince all people - especially those who do not receive me with open arms - by my performance. My aim is to again play my best football. For all of us, the club and the BVB fans."
