Paul Scholes feels Paul Pogba is not worth his reported fee

Scholes, who played with the France international for a stint during their time together at Old Trafford, feels that 'for that sort of money you want someone who is going to score 50 goals a season' after the Juventus star was linked with a jaw-dropping £86-million deal to the Red Devils.

Scholes cited Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as perfect examples of players who can command an eye-watering transfer fee.

"I just don't think he is worth £86m," Scholes was quoted as saying by Sports Witness.

"For that sort of money, you want someone who is going to score 50 goals a season like (Cristiano) Ronaldo or (Lionel) Messi.

"Pogba is nowhere worth that kind of money yet."

The 46-year-old, who has been plying his trade in the Indian Premier Futsal League for Bengaluru 5's, also shared his early memories of Pogba, whom he believes expected too much, too soon.

"He was a very talented young player, I played with him and I knew how good he was," he added.

"He played for the first team maybe once or twice, but from my understanding he was asking for too much money.

"For his age, he was asking for far too much money, that too for a player who hasn't played first team football.

"OK, he has gone on to great things. I think certainly there has been a lot of improvement. He needed to improve if he is going to be a player worth £86m," he concluded.
