Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has often vented his frustration over the lack of transfer movement at the relegation-threatened side.
But with the window set to close in a few hours, the Magpies have made significant breakthroughs with the additions of Italian left-back Antonio Barreca on loan from AS Monaco and Paraguay midfielder Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United respectively.
Amiron arrives at St James' Park for around £21m (R365m), a historic deal that eclipses the previous record fee Newcastle have spent on a player - the £16.5m (R287m) they paid to buy Michael Owen from Real Madrid in 2005.

Meanwhile, Wolves completed the permanent switch for Spain international wing-back Jonny Castro Otto from Atletico Madrid.
Pep Guardiola's outfit have been relatively quiet in the market during the mid-season window.
But they have announced the acquisition of one of Europe's most sought after talents, Ante Palaversa from Hajduk Split.
The 18-year-old will, however, be loaned him back to the Croatian side after securing the £7m move.
Palaversa will return on loan until the end of the 2019-20 season, although City can recall him next January.
"I have not yet shown all I can and hope to play for Hajduk to justify the great trust I have received from England's champions," he told the club's website.
"There is still a lot of work ahead of me."
