“Sometimes you’ll need Giroud or even Alexis Sanchez in the middle and sometimes you’ll need Danny Welbeck or Theo Walcott, whoever will have an impact.”
Strikers Lacazette and Giroud are following a similar career path to French compatriot Henry.
Henry made a name for himself at AS Monaco before a brief season at Juventus which was not as successful as expected. Arsene Wenger then signed Henry in 1999 for £11million. The striker went on to become Arsenal’s top goal scorer, netting 228 times while at the Emirates.
Giroud began playing his football in French Ligue 2, found his way to top-tier side Montpellier, where he earned himself a league title and the golden boot in the 2011/12 season. This caught the attention of Arsenal, who signed Giroud the next year for £12million.
Lacazette is the latest addition to the Gunners’ squad, making the move from Lyon last month for a record transfer fee of £48million. He recently started in Arsenal’s FA Community Shield victory against rivals Chelsea, and looks to be Wenger’s first choice up front.
Arsenal will face Leicester City on Saturday in their opening league fixture at the Emirates Stadium.
