Man City advance to FA Cup quarter-finals

Manchester City defeated Bristol City 3-0 to secure their spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola went a strong line-up for the clash, which saw the return of Kevin de Bruyne while World Cup winner Julian Alvarez started up top with Erling Haaland on the bench.

The English champions got the breakthrough on seven minutes when Riyad Mahrez did well to pick out Phil Foden, who slotted home at the near post.

The hosts did not sit back after falling behind as they made headway in the Citizens' half, with Alex Scott going close with a curling strike that was saved goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

Foden was proving to be real handful for the Bristol defence  on the left flank, with a lot of Man City's attacks coming via the England international.

The lead should have been doubled three minutes before the break after Foden played in De Bruyne, who took one touch before firing over the crossbar from close range.

City manager Pep Guardiola was forced to make a change at the start of the second half, as Ederson replaced Ortega who was unable to continue between the sticks.

Bristol looked livelier on the counter and could have equalised on 69 minutes when Andreas Weimann sent a header wide of the upright from around six yards out.

However, Guardiola's men doubled their lead in the 74th minute when Foden's strike took a big deflection off Zak Vyner and sailed into the far corner.

The visitors went on to grab a third goal in the 82nd minute when De Bruyne got his name on the scoresheet with a lovely strike from distance, which sealed the Citizens' spot in the last eight.
