Manchester City defeated Arsenal 1-0 to secure their spot in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Friday night.
City had Stefan Ortega in goal and recalled Nathan Ake in defence as well, while goalkeeper Matt Turner, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Fabio Vieira and new signing Leandro Trossard came in for the Gunners.
It was a purposed opening five couple of minutes by the Gunners where a powerful shot on the cusp of the area by Tomiyasu forced Ortega into a stern save.
There was more work for the Citizens shot-stopper soon after as he stretched across and kept out Trossard's curling shot following smart play by Bukayo Saka.
City didn't have it all their way but battled to unlock the Premier League leaders, with Kevin De Bruyne going closest with a shot from the edge of the area.
Trossard energised the visitors a little after the half-hour mark when he surged forward and picked out Eddie Nketiah, who volleyed his effort wide of the mark.
City coach Pep Guardiola was required to make a change before halftime after John Stones picked up an injury and was sent down the tunnel, with Aymeric Laporte brought on as the replacement.
The Gunners made alterations themselves ahead of the second half, as Rob Holding was sacrificed for William Saliba and Thomas Partey made way for Albert Sambi Lokonga.
It was a lively opening for City and around about the midway point of the second period, they went ahead when Ake curled a cutback from Jack Grealish past Turner.
Arsenal targeted a swift response when Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli combined from the left of the area before the Citizens stepped in and cleared.
Though, City could've grabbed a second goal just before full-time with a rasping free-kick by Bernardo Silva but he went over as the Citizens held on to book their spot in the next round.
