Ruthless Man City progress in FA Cup

Defending champions Manchester City advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 5-0 thrashing of Huddersfield Town on Sunday afternoon.

Stefan Ortega, Rico Lewis, Ruben Dias, Oscar Bobb and Sergio Gomez were issued starting berths in the title holders defence to their crown won in dramatic fashion last term.

A heavy challenge by Alex Matos on Manuel Akanji on 18 minutes played curtailed the defender's time on the field and saw Matheus Nunes off the bench.

This reshuffling of sorts didn't affect the Citizens who took the lead over 20 minutes thereafter as Phil Foden picked up a loose ball from Julian Alvarez's shot and shifted aside to find the net.

Alvarez got a goal of his own three minutes from the half-hour mark when he was able to get in a decent position to help Rico Lewis' scuffed shot into an empty net.

No team introduced substitutions ahead of the commencement of the second half but preferred to remain unchanged from the opening spell.

Bobb turned up over ten minutes gone when he played in a teasing cross before having gone wide only for Ben Jackson to fire in off the underside of the bar and into his own net.

Foden added a fourth and bagged his brace with a well-taken low finish from a decent angle after managing to work a yard of space.

Jeremy Doku compounded the visitors' woes when he linked up with fellow substitute Kevin De Bruyne and volleyed in inside the closing stages.

City weren't under any danger of surrendering their lead but held firm to grab the win and fourth round passage.
