Man Utd stage late comeback victory in FA Cup

Manchester United rallied from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over West Ham United and secured passage to the FA Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night.

After Sunday's Carabao Cup success, the Red Devils opted to start the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Fred, Marcus Rashford and Casemiro on the bench.

The absence of the United regulars  were of no problem to the host as a first-time shot from the edge of the area by Wout Weghorst forced a sprawling save off Hammers goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

West Ham worked their own threat too midway inside the first half when a ball in behind released Michail Antonio far wide before goalkeeper David De Gea charged out and smothered the attacker.

The Hammers got another chance a while later where a move involving Said Benrahma resulted in an opening for Lucas Paqueta from a tight angle, but the Brazilians couldn't beat De Gea.

With Erik ten Hag unhappy with the first-half display, a substitution from the Red Devils at halftime followed as Scott McTominay made way for Casemiro.

West Ham, though, found the opening goal soon after the resumption when Benrahma picked up a cutback from the left of area by Emerson and applied a smart curling finish past De Gea.

The Red Devils struggled to find rhythm moments apart though were close to going level when a first-time shot by Casemiro drew a strong low stop off Areola.

The hosts did however find the equaliser with 12 minutes to play as Nayef Aguerd guided a floated ball from a corner-kick into his own net.

Aguerd was involved again after he blocked a snap shot from Weghorst only to see the ball fall kindly for Alejandro Garnacho to curl in superbly in added time.

Substitute Fred compounded the visitors' woes as a loose ball in the area saw Weghorst tee-up the Brazilian to slot in from the edge of the area and seal his side's spot in the quarter-finals.
