Liverpool will meet Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals after defeating Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Sunday evening.
The Reds manager Jurgen Klopp made wholesale changes to the side that beat Arsenal in the league, as only shot-stopper Alisson, Virgil Van Dijk, Fabinho and Diogo Jota retained their places while Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were not in the squad.
Liverpool were on the front foot in the early stages and Kostantinos Tsimikas came close to giving them the lead in the 14th minute with a volley that dipped just over the crossbar after exchanging passes with Roberto Firmino.
Nottingham were better organised defensively and did not allow the visitors spaces to exploit in the last third but they were not threatening at the other end of the pitch as the sides remained deadlocked at halftime.
The Reds' struggles to break down Steve Cooper's charges continued in the early stages of the second stanza and Klopp rang the changes just after the hour-mark, as Luis Diaz replaced Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain while Thiago came on for Fabinho to unlock the hosts' defence.
The game opened up after that but the first best chance of the second stanza fell to Nottingham 14 minutes before time, as Philip Zinckernagel latched onto a ball behind the defence with a volley that missed wide of the post by a whisker.
Jota eventually broke the deadlock for Liverpool two minutes later with a lunging finish at the far post after a cross by Tsimikas and Klopp's men held on to clinch a spot in the semi-finals.

Manchester City thrashed Southampton 4-1 to secure a spot in the FA Cup semi-finals on Sunday evening.
There were a new face in the goal of City in Zack Steffen with Ilkay Gundogan, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus also handed starting berths from Monday's draw at Crystal Palace.
City were nearly on the back-foot after ten minutes as a low rasping shot right of the box from Adam Armstrong beat Steffen before it bounced off the bottom of the post.
Although, the fears were scraped three minutes later after a sloppy clearance from the Saints saw Jesus touched the ball into the path of Sterling to slot past an on-rushing Fraser Forster.
Southampton managed to get back on equal footing on the cusp of halftime when Aymeric Laporte trickled a low square ball from Mohamed Elyounoussi past a grappling Steffen.
City were awarded a penalty 30 minutes in the second half from a foul on the near side of the area by Mohammed Salisu on Jesus and saw De Bruyne convert, as Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez entered.
Ralph Hasenhuttl's side stayed calm and almost levelled 73 minutes in through a first-time effort by Che Adams following a switch of play to Elyounoussi, but Steffen made a point blank save.
The Citizens stretched their tally after two minutes when a teasing pass from De Bruyne entered Foden, who took control and fired a sumptuous strike past Foster.
City went in cruise mode three minutes apart after Mahrez touched a delivery from Gundogan around Salisu to apply a composed finish beyond Foster.
