Having entered the final year of his current contract, Dembele was in negotiations to extend his stay with the five-time European champions, but Paris Saint-Germain have seemingly pounced on the uncertainty surrounding the forward's future, having reportedly agreed a five-year deal with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.
Should the transfer be successful and the 26-year-old return to Ligue 1 with PSG, Barcelona will make a move for a prompt replacement, and according to Spanish journalist Josep Capdevila, they have identified free agent Alexis Sanchez as a potential signing in this regard.
While the 27-time league winners stand to recoup a large sum of money from Dembele's potential sale, the Spanish giants are still marred by financial instability and need to be calculated as far as replacing the Les Bleus star is concerned.
Having played for Barcelona between 2011 and 2014, Sanchez shone at his next club Arsenal before failing to hit the heights durig an underwhelming spell at Manchester United.
He has shown glimpses of his quality since, though, in spells with Inter Milan and Olympique Marseille.
Now a free agent, should he make the return to the Camp Nou, Barca boss Xavi Hernandez will be hoping his former teammate will be able to replicate his old form back in Catalonia for at least the 2023/24 season.
