Barcelona 'to make move' for Liverpool star

FC Barcelona are reportedly aiming to make a move for a Liverpool star, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Captain Virgil van Dijk's future at Anfield remains uncertain with two months left of the 2024/25 campaign.

While Trent Alexander-Arnold is now expected to join Real Madrid, El Clasico rivals Barcelona are said to be interested in the Reds captain.

According to Fichajes, the Catalan giants have shown strong interest in the Dutch central defender, who contract with the Premier League side expires in June.

The uncertainty surrounding Van Dijk's future has also seen linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer but it seems they will face competition from Barcelona.

Van Dijk recently spoke about his future after the defeat to PSG in the UEFA Champions League before the international break.

"I still have no idea at the moment. Genuinely, I have no idea," Van Dijk said, as per the New York Times.

"It is not on hold. Nothing is on hold. I keep saying the same thing. There are 10 games to go and that is my full focus.

"If there is news, you guys will know it. I don't even know myself. Everyone knows there are some conversations behind the scenes but that is about it. At the moment, I don't even know what will happen next year. If anyone says they do know, they are lying to your face."
