Barca chief: Why we didn't sign Rashford...

FC Barcelona sporting director Deco has explained why the club did not sign Marcus Rashford in the January transfer window.

The England international had fallen out of favour with coach Ruben Amorim and had not featured for United since November.

After weeks of speculation, Rashford joined fellow Premier League side Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the season.

However, it has now been revealed that Spanish giants Barcelona were also interested in the 27-year-old.

"The winter market is always difficult, it is true that in the past there were important moments for Barça, such as the arrival of Davids, but there is no Davids available today in the market," Deco told Diario Sport.

"It's difficult because the good players, the ones who can contribute, are not available. It's true that there was talk of Rashford, who could have come, but we weren't desperately looking for a player either.

"We knew that we were recovering players, that others were going to reach their best version. If I had been able to come it would have been fine, but it was not a priority."
