Ex-Barca star: Stop comparing Yamal to Messi

A former FC Barcelona star has urged people to stop comparing Lamine Yamal to club legend Lionel Messi.

The Spanish winger has burst on to the scene in the last year and has already made a name for himself for both club and country.

The 17-year-old was influential in helping Spain with the 2024 European Championship, where he was named the Young Player of the Tournament.

Despite great start to his career, former Barcelona and Argentina star Javier Saviola believes the Messi comparisons are not good for Yamal.

"We realise how talented he was when he was 15 years old," Saviola said, as per Sport.

"Just by seeing him, you can tell that he is special. There are very few with that ability and way of seeing football.

"We knew that we had an outstanding talent. He allowed himself to be advised, he listened a lot… It was an accumulation of a lot of things.

"In addition to a great footballer, we are dealing with a person who has absolutely everything.

"Comparing him to Messi is not good for Lamine; I hope he follows in his footsteps, but he will have to work a lot."
