Ex-Barcelona captain 'finds new club' after exit

FC Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto has now reportedly agreed a deal with a new club in Europe, where he will also reunite with one of his old teammates.

With little more than a week before the transfer window in Europe's top five leagues slams shut, a number of deals are now being finalised ahead of a long 2024/25 season.

Barca are believed to be keen to offload a few players in order to recoup funds and, arguably more importantly, relieve their wage bill, which has prevented them from registering some of their players for the current LALIGA campaign.

One such player whose wages are no longer on the club's books is former captain Sergi Roberto.

The Spaniard announced his exit from the team during a farewell event on 13 August, officially ending an association with the Catalan giants that began in 2006.

According to ESPN, the 32-year-old has now agreed a deal to join Italian minnows Como as a free agent.

With Roberto's contract at Barca having expired on 30 June, he is now expected to reunite with his old Blaugrana teammate Cesc Fabregas, who is the head coach of the Serie A outfit.

Como also recently signed former Real Madrid and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane as a free agent after his departure from Old Trafford in June.

Roberto made 373 appearances for the LALIGA giants, registering 19 goals and 43 assists.

There were reports that the versatile star could join Inter Miami, where he would have reunited with his old Barca colleagues Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez, but he now appears to be on his way to Fabregas' project in Italy instead.
