Barcelona's alternate plan for Messi 'revealed'

With talks between Lionel Messi's representatives and FC Barcelona ongoing, the club reportedly has an alternative plan if the Argentine does not re-sign for them.

On Monday, the player's agent and father, Jorge Messi, was spotted in Barcelona attending a meeting with Blaugrana president Joan Laporta to discuss the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's potential return to the club.

The 35-year-old will not continue at Paris Saint-Germain after a turbulent two seasons in the French capital, where he was booed by some PSG fans during his final game for the team this past weekend.

According to various reports in Spain, initial talks have been positive, with Messi's father even disclosing that it is his son's desire is to be a Barca player once more, while also insisting that the move is not in any way motivated by money.

It also emerged that LaLiga are set to respond to the Catalan giants' financial feasibility plan that could help them re-sign the Albiceleste captain later this week, although Messi's dad has also admitted that "a lot of things have to happen" before a full agreement is reached.

With the sensational move seemingly in the balance, an alternative solution has reportedly been hatched.

According to Spanish football news streaming outlet Jijantes FC, if Messi does not officially rejoin Barca, the parties involved could settle for a farewell ceremony instead.

It has also been claimed that the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner's entourage will release a statement regarding the superstar's future within the next two days, confirming whether or not his fairy-tale homecoming at the Camp Nou will transpire.

However, Jijantes FC journalist Albert Roge is struggling to understand why the Rosario-born attacker wants to decide his future so soon, due to the fact that even if LaLiga approves Barcelona's financial plan for the next two years, the club would still need time to offload two or three players before they can register him.

"Barca cannot register Messi until 1 July since his contract with PSG runs until 30 June," Roge said.

"So, it doesn't make sense to be in such a hurry when there is still practically a month left until the transfer market officially opens."
