De Jong is reportedly Barcelona's highest-paid player, but the club are looking to negotiate a new deal with the player's agent to reduce his salary.

There are also reports Barcelona are worried with how long De Jong has been out compared to Pedri, who has already returned to training and could feature in the opening game of the LALIGA season.
