Messi won't return to Barca – here's why

Lionel Messi's agent and father, Jorge Messi, has revealed why his son is not expected to return to Barcelona.

The Argentine's future continues to be the talk of the town, with the player's current contract getting closer to expiring as each day passes.

Earlier this week, Messi reportedly held showdown talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a new deal, but it is understood a resolution has not yet been reached.

It is said the 35-year-old's representatives and the club's hierarchy will sit down again in the coming days to continue negotiations.

Amid the ongoing contract renewal talks, Al Hilal and Inter Miami are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation, with a view to making an offer to the superstar if he makes it clear he wishes to leave Paris.

Interestingly, while a return to his boyhood team was often mooted last year, Barcelona have not been linked with the forward in recent months.

His father Jorge has now provided some clarity as to why Xavi Hernandez's side no longer appears to be a realistic next destination for the South American.

"I don't think Messi will return to Barcelona," he said, according to Forbes.

"The conditions are not met.

"We have not spoken with Laporta and there is no offer."

Previous reports had suggested that the relationship between Messi and Laporta had broken down following the veteran's shock exit from the Camp Nou in 2021.
