The 7 Barca stars who could be sold after £177m warning

As many as seven Barcelona stars could be sold in the next transfer window after the Catalan giants received a £177 million (R3.7 billion) warning from LaLiga.

The Spanish top flight has told the Blaugrana to make significant cuts worth £177 million (R3.7 billion) to their wage bill ahead of the 2023/24 season if they want to comply with the league's financial fair play rules.

A number of high-profile names are likely to be moved on to free up wages as a result.

According to the Daily Mail, Ansu Fati and Frenkie de Jong are among those who could be set for exits at the end of this season.

De Jong remains a long-term target for Erik ten Hag's Manchester United, while the former reportedly has a host of potential offers from top European clubs.

The Red Devils, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are said to be among the teams interested in Fati, who currently earns £200 000 (R4.2 million) a week at the Camp Nou.

Veterans Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba are also on the list of players who could leave, with the midfielder's contract expiring at the end of this season, while the defender has fallen down the pecking order behind Marcos Alonso and Alejandro Balde of late.

Winger Ousmane Dembele, meanwhile, continues to be linked with a transfer away despite being a regular figure in the starting XI in this campaign.

According to Capology, the Frenchman earns £202 686 (R4.3 million) a week with the Catalans, with his deal set to expire in June 2024.

However, with the France international being one of the club's highest-paid players and having a poor injury record, he could also be moved on in a bid to alleviate the club's financial difficulties, with Paris Saint-Germain rumoured as a possible destination.

Franck Kessie and Sergi Roberto, who have both played bit-part roles this season under Xavi, could also soon be sold to ease the wage bill.
