Xavi hits back at Barca's critics after ElCasico rout

FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has hit back at the criticism aimed at his following their big loss to Real Madrid last week.

The Catalans are favourites to clinch the LaLiga title, as they can move 15 points clear with a win over Girona on Monday night.

However, Barcelona disappointed in Europe once again this season after being eliminated from both UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

The criticism grew louder after Xavi's charges suffered a 4-0 loss to Los Blancos at the Camp Nou, which ended their Copa del Rey journey.

The Blaugrana legend has out at those trying to claim the progress this season has not been good despite closing in on the LaLiga title

"We are talking about winning LaLiga," Xavi said in a news conference on Sunday.

"I don't get it. Winning LaLiga is the bee's knees. We have won five Champions Leagues in our history, which is really good, but it is demanded that we win it?

"Winning LaLiga brings stability. I remember [former Madrid coach Zinedine] Zidane said after winning the Champions League that the objective was to win LaLiga.

"From the inside, we value really highly what we are doing against a really strong Madrid. Winning LaLiga is being minimised when for us it will be extraordinary."
