Ghana were eliminated from the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 loss to Uruguay, who also departed the tournament following Korea Republic's win over Portugal in Group H's other match.
The infamous Luis Suarez started for the first time in the tournament following the 2010 semi-final hand-ball against the Black Stars, with Mohammed Kudus in attack for Otto Addo's men.
Ghana got a clear chance to go ahead through a spot-kick on 20 minutes as Kudus drew a foul from goalkeeper Sergio Rochet, who redeemed himself as he smothered the place-kick from Andre Ayew.
That miss would haunt the Black Stars within five minutes after quick feet and a snap shot from Suarez worked a smart save from Lawrence Ati Zigi only for Giorgian de Arrascaeta to turn in.
It was the same de Arrascaeta that caused more damage ahead of the break when he volleyed in on the shoulder of the defence off a looping ball by Suarez.
A change from the Sky Blue before the break saw Rodrigo Bentancur removed following a knock and former Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino introduced.
Uruguay needed a third to confirm qualification to the knockout stages and were close at the death through Maximilian Gomez, but he was denied and 2-0 it finished.
Korea Republic joined the Group H leaders Portugal in the round of 16 after beating them 2-1 at the Education City Stadium.
Bruno Fernandes, who were at the double against Uruguay, started on the bench for Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Mario and a first start of the tournament for Ricardo Horta led up top.
Horta justified the reason for his inclusion on five minutes through a delightful finish from the edge of the area from a ball in by Manchester United's Diogo Dalot.
Korea levelled before the half-hour mark when a corner-kick caused confusion at the back in which Ronaldo failed to clear a loose ball and allowed Kim Young-gwon in to pounce.
The Portuguese succumbed again in the added time when Hwang Hee-chan popped up and latched home captain Heung-Min Son's delivery and handed Korea victory as well as a last 16 ticket.
