African FIFA World Cup Qualifying Wrap

Ghana 1-0 Ethiopia

Ghana ascended to the top of Group G in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win over Ethiopia on Friday.

With South Africa and Zimbabwe playing to a draw in the group's other match earlier in the day, Mubarak Wakaso's first half strike handed the Black Stars victory and face South Africa on Monday.

Mozambique 0-0 Ivory Coast

Mozambique started their road to the World Cup finals next year with a goalless stalemate against the might of Ivory Coast.

It was a Group D encounter in the city of Maputo; as the Mambas next date see them visit Malawi and the Elephants taking on Cameroon in a mouth-watering West African derby.

Cameroon 2-0 Malawi

Cameroon jumped to the top of Group D with a 2-0 victory over Malawi in their first World Cup qualifying clash in the capital Yaounde.

Both the goals happened in the first 30 minutes of the clash through Vincent Aboubakar and Belgium-based Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui.

Nigeria 2-0 Liberia

Nigeria put Liberia away in comfortable fashion following a 2-0 win in the start of the qualifying journey in Group C.

The Super Eagles featured their top stars and it was two first half goals from Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho to give them a winning start to their qualification campaign.

Mauritania 1-2 Zambia

Zambia's life without coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic took off positively after getting the better of Mauritania away from home.

Pitted in Group B alongside Tunisia and Equatorial Guinea, new Brighton Hove and Albion signing Enock Mwepu issued Chipolopolo a bright start in the earlier exchanges.

The lead increased soon after the break courtesy of Prince Mumba, while Mamadou Niass grabbed the home nation's solitary reply.

Tunisia 3-0 Equatorial Guinea

Two late goals handed Tunisia a 3-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea in their opening qualifier to overtake Group B leaders Zambia.

The Carthage Eagles were off the mark through Dylan Bronn late in second half before Ellyes Skhiri and a penalty from Wahbi Khazri put the tie beyond doubt.
