Ethiopia 1-0 Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe's qualifying hopes took a knock after a shock 1-0 last-gasp loss to Ethiopia, who blew Group G wide open at Bahir Dar Stadium.
The game was seemingly headed for a stalemate in the latter stages but Ethiopia were awarded a penalty in stoppage time, which was smashed home by Aschalew Tamene.
As a result, Ethiopia are level on three points with Ghana, both one point shy of leaders Bafana Bafana while the Warriors are bottom with only one point.
Bafana will face off with Ethiopia in back-to-back matches in early October while Zimbabwe will play Ghana.
Burkina Faso 1-1 Algeria
Burkina Faso blew Group A wide open after holding Algeria to a 1-1 draw at Stade de Marrakech.
Sofiane Feghouli opened the scoring for the North African giants in the 18th minute but Abdoul Tapsoba levelled matters for the Stallions in the 64th minute and earned his side a point, that ensured they remain level on four points with Algeria.
Congo-Brazzaville 1-3 Senegal
Senegal kept their 100 percent record at the top of Group H with a 3-1 win over Congo-Brazzaville at Stade Aphonse Massemba-Debat.
Villarreal forward Boulaye Dia broke the deadlock for the Lions of Teranga just before the half-hour mark and Silvere Ganvoula gave Congo hope after levelling matters on the stroke of half-time.
However, Watford striker Ismaila Sarr restored the lead for Senegal in the last eight minutes and Sadio Mane sealed the deal three minutes before time from the penalty spot.
Cape Verde Islands 1-2 Nigeria
Nigeria maintained their perfect start at the top of Group C after a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Cape Verde at Estadio Municipal Aderito Sena.
Dylan Tavares opened the scoring for Cape Verde in the 19th minute but Napoli striker Victor Osimhen found the equaliser for the Super Eagles on the half-hour mark and an own goal by Kenny Rocha Santos 14 minutes before time handed Nigeria victory.
Angola 0-1 Libya
Libya maintained their perfect start at the top of Group F after a narrow 1-0 win over Angola at Estadio 11 de Novembro.
Omar Al Khoja broke the deadlock for the Meditettanean Knights just before the half-time break and that proved to be the winner.
Equatorial Guinea 1-0 Mauritania
Equatorial Guinea got their first win in Group B after a narrow 1-0 win over Mauritania at Nuevo Estadio de Malabo.
After a goalless first stanza, Iban Salvador eventually broke the deadlock for Equatoria Guinea on the the hour-mark from the penalty spot and that was enough to hand them their first points on the board.
Sudan 2-4 Guinea-Bissau
Guinea-Bissau clinched their first win in Group I after drubbing Sudan 4-2 courtesy of a brace by Piqueti at Al-Hilal Stadium.
Frederic Mendy scored in between Piqueti's brace for Guinea-Bissau in the first stanza as they raced to a 3-0 lead, with only Mohamed Yousif pulling a goal back nine minutes from the half-time break.
Mama Balde made it 4-1 for the vistors eight minutes before time and Yousif scored another consolation goal for Sudan and completed his brace in stoppage time.
Malawi 1-0 Mozambique
Malawi got their maiden victory in Group D after defeating Mozambique at Orlando Stadium.
Baroka striker Richard Mbulu bagged the game's only goal as early as the 10th minute.
