African FIFA World Cup Qualifying Wrap

Senegal became the first African nation to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Namibia in a Group H qualifier at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

The Brave Warriors entered halftime on level terms after Mamelodi Sundowns' Peter Shalulile cancelled out Famara Diedhiou's effort, who then struck two more goals to complete a hat-trick.

Aliou Cisse's men cemented top spot in the group with four wins from four matches played which equates 12 points in the grand scheme of things.

Ghana continued to boost their chances of qualifying for the World Cup playoffs with a 1-0 win over Zimbabwe in a Group G clash.

Also, the Black Stars ensured successive wins over the host following Saturday's victory and had Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey netting the winner.

The result ruled the Warriors out of contention for a play-off spot, as South Africa remained on top of the group after their home win over Ethiopia.

African champions Algeria added another crushing defeat to Niger that ended the latter's playoffs hopes with a 4-0 annihilation away from home.

The victory moved the Desert Foxes back to the top of Group A and will now battle second-place Burkina Faso for top spot with Djibouti also eliminated from the playoff quest.

Manchester City's Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring in the first half before Aissa Mandi, Ismael Bennacer and Baghdad Bounedjah compounded Niger's woes.

Togo picked up their first win of the qualifiers following a 2-1 triumph over Congo away at the Stade Alphonse Massemba-Debat in the other clash in Group H.

The Congolese trailed at halftime this after Euloge Placca gave Togo the lead, but Guy Mbenza pulled the home side back on level terms late on only for Kevin Denkey to net the winner.
