Fernandes claims his skipper thrives off the criticism and asked the critics to continue.

"I think Cristiano likes to work under criticism from everyone," Fernandes said after the game, as per Goal.

"I pray for all of you to keep doing that because it gets the best of himself when you guys do that."

Ronaldo is now a officially a free agent and Fernandes claims Portugal's World Cup campaign.

"I still share the space with him in the national team and the main thing for me is that Portugal does the best we can in the tournament because if we do it, Cristiano will be happy, I will be happy and everyone in Portugal will be happy for us."
