Lionel Messi and Argentina were left frustrated with the VAR after being forced to settle for a point against Paraguay on Friday morning.
La Albiceleste dropped points for the first time in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign after playing out a 1-1 draw with Paraguay at La Bombonera.
The Paraguayans opened the scoring through an Angel Romero penalty in the 21st minute, before Nicolas Gonzalez equalised for Argentina just before half-time, ensuring that the scores were level heading into the break.

Messi then thought he had netted the winner in the second half, only to see his effort ruled out by the VAR due to a foul in the build-up to the goal, much to the consternation of manager Lionel Scaloni.
"I think that, in some way, it is necessary to seek to unify the issue of the VAR. I am not talking in good or bad faith, but to unify criteria," Scaloni said after the match, per Goal.
Despite the disappointment of the result, the point was enough to propel Argentina to the top of the CONMEBOL qualification standings with seven points from their opening three matches, although rivals Brazil could reclaim top spot on Friday with a win over Venezuela.
