Senegal coach: An African team can win the World Cup

Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse says an African nation can win the FIFA World Cup.

Africa is yet to taste World Cup glory, with Senegal and Ghana going the furtherest in 2002 and 2010 by making it to the quarter-finals.

The Lions of Teranga became the first African nation to pick up three points at this year's tournament in Qatar after defeating the hosts.

The Africa Cup of Nations-winning coach believes African nations do have what it takes to claim football's biggest prize.

"Yes, an African country can win the World Cup, and I hope that it will be Senegal," coach Cisse told reporters as per Lemonde.

Lions of Teranga defender Pape Abou Cisse says all the pressure on African teams comes from themselves.

"I hope the other African teams will get going and achieve something in this competition," Abou Cisse said as quoted by Fifa.com.

"We don't feel any pressure because of our status compared to the other African teams. The only pressure comes from ourselves because we have big ambitions in this competition."
