On Thursday, the South African Football Association (SAFA) announced that leading official Victor Gomes will take charge of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Group A qualifier between Algeria and Burkina Faso on 16 November 2021.
Gomes, who oversaw the match qualifier between Egypt and Libya last month, will be assisted by three of his compatriots, namely Zakhele Siwela, Athenkosi Ndongeni and fourth official Thando Ndzandzeka for the crunch clash.
Reigning African champions Algeria currently top the Group A standings ahead of Burkina Faso on goal difference and their upcoming encounter could determine which of the two nations will progress to the next round of qualifying.
Elsewhere, Djibouti and Niger have both mathematically seen their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup dashed, with the former having lost all four of their qualifying matches thus far.
