Leicester City close in on £25 million Zambian striker

Leicester City are reportedly closing in on a £25 million (R490 million) deal for a Zambian striker, seemingly beating Liverpool and Chelsea to the player's signature.

Red Bull Salzburg's Patson Daka was the 2020/21 Austrian Bundesliga Player of the Season after scoring 27 goals in 28 matches to help lead his club to the league title.

This brought the 22-year-old a lot of interest from a number of European giants, including Liverpool and Chelsea, but it is Brendan Rodgers' Foxes that seem to have acted the fastest to fend off competition, and are already in advanced negotiations over a £25 million deal, according to the Daily Mail.

The Leicester manager has admitted previously that he wants to buy another forward, saying: "We'll want to strengthen at the top end of the field, we need more of a goal threat, and we need to have a bit more physicality in the team.

"I want to bring in one or two players who have that winning feeling. Maybe players who have won something or have that feeling of competing at the top end with their respective teams. That's something that can help the team."

Should the move transpire, Daka would be joining a burgeoning African contingent already at the club, with Nigeria's Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, South African midfielder Khanya Leshabela and Ghanaian Daniel Amartey all on the playing roster.
