Major League Soccer club Inter Miami's director Chris Henderson: It is great to be connected with Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi

With Lionel Messi said to have had talks with Major League Soccer outfit Inter Miami, the club's director has now responded to reports linking the Paris Saint-Germain superstar with a switch to the United States at the end of the season.

Messi's future remains subject to speculation as his contract at PSG winds down. He is set to be a free agent in June 2023 and according to various reports, three club's have put up their hand to sign him, namely FC Barcelona, Inter Miami, and current employers PSG, who want him to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes.

With the 35-year-old is reportedly refusing to make a decision about his future until the 2022 FIFA World Cup is over, but the North American team is believed to be feeling confident about landing his services after the first round of talks with the Argentine's entourage, per The Athletic.

With reports continuing to swirl, Inter's director Chris Henderson was asked about being linked with the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner and he remained coy about the matter, according to Goal.

He said: "I knew Messi would come up!

"It's great to be connected with amazing players and our club connected with. I don't want to comment on someone who's not on our roster and speculation and rumours, but he's one of the greatest players to have ever played the game.

"Messi on any team in the world is going to change that team. I don't want to speculate and talk about him on our team, but he changes every league and every team that he plays for.

"It comes down to what is the character of the player? What is his motivation to come to the league? The balance between older players in this league and younger players, it comes down to that motivation, the fitness level of the player, why he's coming and then being able to integrate him into what you're doing as a club and where you going."
