Ansu Fati: FC Barcelona wonderkid 'too young' for Man of the Match award

FC Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati was unable to earn the Man of the Match award in LaLiga last night because he is underage.

Fati, 17, terrorised Villarreal on their 2020/21 season opener with a brace in the 4-0 victory for Ronald Koeman's new-look side but missed out on the award to Jordi Alba.

With Budweiser being the official sponsor and Fati not at the age of legal consent for consuming alcohol, he was legally unable to receive of be pictured with the trophy.

Fati's performance last night further staked his claim as one of the world's finest talents after a breakthrough season last year and a record-breaking off-season with the senior Spain national team.

But club stalwart Sergio Busquets has urged supporters to temper their expectations of the Guinea-Bissau born forward as he gets to grip with regular first-team football with the Blaugrana.

"We have to be calm with him," the midfielder told reporters, per Marca, after the match. "We know the ability he has. He's tremendous. We have to let him play his football and make the most of the good form he's in."

The teenage sensation has scored 10 goals and registered two assists in 12 starts across all competitions since making his first-team debut for the Spanish giants.
