Newly-crowned LaLiga champions FC Barcelona went down 2-1 to top-four hopefuls Real Sociedad on Saturday evening.
Barca coach Xavi Hernandez made three changes from the win over Espanyol that secured the title as Jordi Alba, Franck Kessie and Ousmane Dembele slotted into the starting eleven.
It was a disappointing start for the champions though as Sociedad took the lead when an unmarked Mikel Merino met a low cross and fired in off goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
Kessie nearly though got the host back on level terms moments later with a snap shot in the area, but the defence did the job and parried the midfielder.
The Ivorian international was in again through another cutback to the centre of the box, but was again kept in check by the rear-guard.
Sociedad pushed up again after the half-hour mark and almost increased their lead from a low shot in the area by Mohamed-Ali Cho, but Ter Stegen stuck out a leg to parry.
The Catalans showed up at other end inside the closing quarter and a direct corner from Raphinha nearly crept in the near post, but Alex Remiro palmed.
Barcelona started the second half with a substitution as former Chelsea player Marcos Alonso came on for Frenchman Jules Kounde.
The Catalans remained vulnerable at the back and conceded another opening inside the opening quarter of the second half when Alexander Sorloth nodded wide from Takefusa Kubo's free-kick.
Sorloth did make amends in the last 20 minutes as the forward rose in unmarked in the area and calmly tucked in a lay-off from the left of the area.
Barcelona got a consolation in added time after Robert Lewandowski rose on the end of a cross and nodded in, but Sociedad avoided a collapse to confirm victory and strengthened their top-four hopes.
