Ten-man Barca keep slim title hopes alive

FC Barcelona made it back-to-back wins LALIGA with a 3-1 triumph away to Alaves on Saturday evening.

The visitors were forced into one change for the clash as Ferran Torres missed out through injury, with Xavi Hernandez recalling Andreas Christensen to the midfield.

Blaugrana entered the encounter unbeaten in 12 matches in this fixture, having registered 11 victories and one draw while Alaves' last win came in 2016.

Barcelona made their early dominance count when they opened the scoring in 22nd minute when Robert Lewandowksi ran through on goal from Ilkay Gundogan's pass before finding the back of the net with a lovely chip.

Alaves, meanwhile, finished the half quite strongly and were unlucky not to have found the equaliser as Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena produced a couple good saves to deny Ander Guevara and Jon Guridi.

Barcelona needed four minutes to double their lead in the second half through Gundogan, who fired past Sivera with a half-volley after being picked out by Pedri.

Samu Omorodion got the home side back in the contest on 51 minutes when beat Frenkie de Jong to the ball and sent a thumping past Pena from Alex Sola's cross.

Xavi responded by throwing on 18-year-old Vitor Roque, who made an immediate impact when he bagged the Catalan giants' third goal with a first-time finish from Héctor Fort's cross.

Roque's evening would be cut short though after he was sent off in the 72nd minute after picking up his second yellow card of the game, five minutes after getting his first booking.

Alaves were unbale to profit from the numerical advantage in the closing stages, as Barcelona defended quite well to see out the rest of the game and clinch maximum points.
