Barca secure maiden LaLiga win without Xavi

Reigning LaLiga champions Barcelona recorded their first win this season with a 2-0 victory over Cadiz on Sunday evening.

With Raphinha out through suspension, young Lamile Yamal replaced the Brazilian while Gavi filled in for the injured Ronald Araujo following the goalless draw on the opening day against Getafe CF. Manager Xavi Hernandez was also in the stands after his sending off last week.

Barca were quick out of the blocks on the half-hour mark and saw Yamal cut inside from the narrowest of angles to force a remarkable one-hand save from Cadiz goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma.

The Catalans continued to push forward past the water-break where Jules Kounde got onto a through ball after beating the offside trap and reduced Ledesma to a first-time stop.

However, moments later the visitors caught the Blaugrana napping with Roger Martin send level with goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who emerged on top with a good save.

Barcelona were unfortunate not to go ahead ten minutes from the break as a header from Gavi looped over Ledesma and bounced off the crossbar before rolling past a lurking Robert Lewandowski.

It was Gavi's last participation in the match after he was removed for Eze Abde before Ansu Fati came on for Alejandro Balde as the Catalans searched the breakthrough.

The initiative energised the host and with seven minutes to go saw Pedri made a late run in the box to tuck in the opener following Ilkay Gundogan's pin-point pass.

Barcelona doubled the lead in added time when Ferran Torres broke through the lines and raced clear to slot in the bottom-corner minutes after Fati had one disallowed for offside.
