Barca thrashed by surprise LaLiga leaders

FC Barcelona slumped to a disappointing 4-2 loss to cross-town rivals Girona, who reclaimed top spot in LaLiga on Sunday night.

The reigning champions were unchanged from the win over Atletico Madrid last weekend, with Joao Felix and Raphina continuing in the attack behind Robert Lewandowski.

It was the league leaders who drew first blood inside 13 minutes when Viktor Tsygankov beat the offside trap to go out wide and cutback for Artem Dovbyk to tap in off the post.

Barcelona were level five minutes later as Lewandowski towered above three defenders to head in a telling cross from a corner-kick.

The league's surprise package got back in front five minutes before halftime when Miguel Gutierrez peeled off a stray ball involving Jules Kounde and powered into the near corner.

Lewandowski should've levelled again from a delightful ball over the top, but he struggled to make a proper contact and failed to pounce.

With the sides unchanged from the first half, Barca went close to draw level through a free-kick by Raphinha but he slammed over much to the crowd's displeasure.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez made a trio of changes early on, as Lamine Yamal, Alejandro Balde and Ferran Torres stepped on the park.

Former Manchester City skipper Ilkay Gundogan missed a golden chance to bring the host level when he snapped a clear ball from an acute angle wide of the far post.

Girona were more accurate and grabbed a third goal with ten minutes to go as Valery Fernandes beat Kounde to a layoff and finished off the inside-post.

Barcelona set-up a lively end when Gundogan pooped up in the area and volleyed in a cutback a minute into added time.

Michel's charges regained their two-goal advantage with seconds to play as Stuani arrived unmarked at the far post to stab in from close-range.

The Blaugrana were completely out of sight at this point and left the visitors to an historic win in Catalonia.
