Reigning champions FC Barcelona started their LaLiga campaign with a goalless draw against Getafe, with both sides finishing the game with ten players on Sunday night.
The champions gave starts to new signings Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu, as the Catalans looked to end their three-game scoreless run at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
However, the host were keen to make their lives difficult as Juan Latasa got in-behind on the end of a teasing supply before an intervention from Jules Kounde thwarted the attacker.
Barcelona began to have momentum in advanced areas thereafter and a speculative free-kick from Raphinha narrowly sailed beyond the intended target.
New boy Gundogan looked to have a dream debut through a rasping attempt around the area moments apart, but he wasn't able to get beyond the opposing shot-stopper David Soria.
Barca were down to ten men in the remaining four minutes of the half when Raphinha walked the plank for an elbow on Gaston Alvarez.
Not too many forays came in the second period, as the host went down to ten players themselves after an indiscretion saw Jaime Mata given a red for a late challenge on Ronald Araujo.
The Blaugrana, though, did carve out a golden chance midway through the second half as Robert Lewandowski jumped high to head in a cross only for the effort to be cleared off the line.
With manager Xavi Hernandez dismissed for lashing out at an on-field decision, Barca introduced Ansu Fati for Pedri Gonzalez and took out Gundogan to haul in Gavi.
Fati nearly had an instant impact when he managed to sneak in-behind and lash a clever delivery in off the side-netting, with Soria caught flat-footed.
There were a bit of drama in added time with Gavi in the area, but nothing came and goalless was the final score with the champions denied an opening-day win.
