Stuttering Real Madrid rescued by Vinicius

Real Madrid dropped points for the second time in three matches after a 1-1 draw with Las Palmas on Thursday night.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti made four changes from the win over Valladolid, with Luka Modric Ferland Mendy, Lucas Vazquez and Brahim Diaz returning to the line-up.

The home side stunned Los Blancos after five minutes when Alberto Moleiro weaved his way into the box and rifled the ball beyond a helpless Thibaut Courtois between the sticks.

Las Palmas had no desire to sit back and soak up the pressure as they went close to adding a second goal a few minutes later but Mendy did well to deflect Javi Munoz's cross just wide of the upright with Oli McBurnie.

It proved to be a disappointing opening 45 minutes for the defending champions, who failed to register a serious effort at the Las Palmas goal.

In an attempt to improve for the second period, Ancelotti introduced Rodrygo Goes and Fran Garcia at halftime as Brahim and Mendy made way after a disappointing first half.

Los Blancos were afforded a lifeline on 67 minutes after being awarded a penalty for a handball in the box. Vinicius Junior stepped up and his spot-kick into the far corner to level matters.

The hosts thought they had bagged the winning goal on 88 minutes through Jaime Mata's lovely finish, but the celebrations were cut short due the offside flag on the Spanish attacker as the encounter ended all square.
