The home side began to find courage and a promising header by Eder Militao drew a remarkable close-range save off goalkeeper Rui Silva, with the follow-up hitting the side-netting.
Mbappe battled to get involved earlier on, but had a chance just past the half-hour mark when his teasing shot from the area shaved off target.

After a quiet first half, the host continued to push for the opener through a point-blank effort from Mbappe but he again missed target with the goal in sight.
Two substitutions from Madrid in the latter period of the half saw Fran Garcia come on for Ferland Mendy before Ceballos made way for Diaz.
Mbappe did come good near the remaining 20 minutes after beating the offside trap to keep cool in the six-yard area and finished off Federico Valverde's back-heel.
Los Blancos earned a penalty in the final 15 minutes as Silva hauled down Vinicius who attempted to round him in the box, and Mbappe stepped up to complete his first double for Madrid.
Youngster Endrick came on a minute to full-time when he replaced countryman Rodrygo, and nearly profited with his first touch following a low pass but Silva denied him.
