Real overtake Barca after six-goal thriller

Real Madrid moved up to second spot on the LALIGA table following a 4-2 victory over Sevilla on Sunday evening.

Vinicius Junior missed out through suspension and was replaced by Brahim Diaz, while Fran Garcia withdrawn from the side that started against Pachuca as Eduardo Camavinga was introduced.

Madrid needed just ten minutes to get going when Rodrygo stormed down the left and cutback for Kylian Mbappe to find the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.

The dominance didn't stop as the host doubled the lead in the opening-quarter after Federico Valverde riffled a delivery from Camavinga in the top corner.

Rodrygo, who enjoyed a lively outing, got in on the action minutes to the break when he retrieved a layoff on the byline from Lucas Vazquez to nestle the back of the net.

Sevilla were back in it soon thereafter as Isaac Romero leaped high in the six-yard area to guide a strong thumping header past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

No changes were recorded following the resumption, with the Los Blancos in control of matters and the visitors in a desperate quest to conjure up a turnaround.

Romero should've added a second for him and his outfit from a loose pass after uncertain defending by the reigning champions, but the striker lashed straight at Courtois.

The European champions pulled further away though as Moroccan Diaz latched on the end of a clever dink from Mbappe to side-foot in the net.

Sevilla saw long-serving winger Jesus Navas come on for his last ever appearance for the club in a two-decade spell midway in the second half and replaced Stanis Idumbo.

There were late drama though when the visitors got a second through a decent finish from a telling position by Dodi Lukebakio.

Los Blancos didn't lose confidence and emerged with the win to leapfrog rivals FC Barcelona to second-place and moved within a behind league leaders Atletico Madrid.
