Struggling Valladolid hand Barca back-to-back defeats

Champions FC Barcelona fell to their second successive loss in LaLiga after losing 3-1 away to Real Valladolid on Tuesday night.

The likes of Marcos Alonso, Sergi Roberto, Gavi and Pablo Torre were all handed starts by coach Xavi Hernandez after Sunday's defeat to Real Sociedad.

Valladolid got themselves ahead two minutes into the contest after Darwin Machis' cross was inadvertently turned home by Barcelona's Andreas Christensen.

The goal certainly caught Barcelona by surprise but the hosts were forced to re-shuffle the pack on 17 minutes as Joaquin Fernandez was forced off with an injury and replaced by David Torres.

The lead was doubled six minutes later when Cyle Larin converted from the penalty spot after Eric Garcia's clumsy challenge on Gonzalo Plata in the 18-yard area.

Valladolid shot-stopper Jordi Masip the busier of the two goalkeepers, as he was called upon to keep out efforts from Raphinha and Christensen as the hosts went into the break with a two-goal lead.

The second half continued in similar fashion to the first, but the hosts nearly bagged a third goal just before the hour mark as Larin latched onto Machis' cross before seeing his strike shave the upright.

Barcelona nearly fell further behind on 59 minutes when Larin managed to squeeze in on goal but with only goalkeeper Inaki Pena to beat, he sent his effort against the frame of the goal.

Larin continued to torment the Barcelona defence as he played a key role in the third goal on 74 minutes by breaking clear of the Garcia and setting up Glata, who calmly slotted home.

The visitors were able to bag a consolation in the final seven minutes courtesy of an impressive from Robert Lewandowski after some good work by Frenkie de Jong in the build up.

Xavi's charges will take on Real Mallorca in their final home of the season this weekend, while Valladolid travel to Almeira.
